The In Lap

McLaren have officially won their first Constructors' Championship since 1998! Zak Brown said post-race that it was the most stressful two hours of his life, and after what happened on the first lap, we can understand why.

It all looked a bit sketchy when Verstappen came flying down the inside at turn 1 and spun out with Piastri, knocking him to the back of the field. Carlos was right up behind Lando, and Charles made up a ton of places and was in the top 10 after the first lap!

Lando delivered what could only be considered a stable, confident, and unwavering drive to keep P1 from start to finish. Crossing the line, he and the team showed obvious joy, but Lando made it clear that next year will also be his year.

The 2025 Ferrari driver lineup had a rough start to the weekend when it was announced that Charles would be taking a 10-place grid penalty after the Ferrari was forced to exceed the battery allocation. And after Lewis ran over a dislodged bollard during Q1 and was knocked out thereafter, the two of them showed their high skill by working their way through the field and making it up to P3 and P4 on the day.

It will be so interesting next year to see how these two get along and if the competitiveness and skill of these two cause friction out on track. Most of us wanted Lewis to have a shining weekend to end his Mercedes tenure after all he and the team had accomplished together.

Even with the difficult start to the weekend, he came out on Sunday and showed he still has the pure race craft that makes him a 7-time world champion and silenced all of his critics saying he was washed up and past his prime.

Emotional messages on the team radio, photos in the garage with his race engineer Bono alongside his wife, and with the other members of the Mercedes team, it ended up being a great send-off to Ferrari.

Gasly and Piastri F1 Firsts

Both Pierre Gasly and Oscar Piastri achieved notable milestones this year!

Gasly is now the first driver to avoid causing his team any expenses in damages over an entire season. This is quite impressive, as even the smallest incident can cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. For example, Pérez’s crash in Monaco this year was estimated to cost approximately $3 million…

Oscar Piastri became the fourth driver in F1 history to race every single lap of the season, but unfortunately for him, he is the first driver to accomplish this feat without winning the Drivers' Championship.

Previous drivers to complete every lap in a season include Schumacher (2002), Hamilton (2019), and Verstappen (2023), each of whom won the Drivers' Championship.

GM Select Team Principal

GM has announced that Graeme Lowdon - former CEO the Virgin/Marussia F1 team, will be stepping taking the role of team principal. The last time he was on the grid was in 2015.

He is a part of Zhou’s management team so this could be a boost for Zhou’s chances of getting back on the grid in 2026!

Carlos made a fun bet with Zhou that if the Chinese driver scored points this season he would take a photo with the 🌶️ suit!

Max Verstappen News

First of all a big congratulations to Max and Kelly! He has mentioned in the past that he values family time and it will play a big role when he decides to retire.

We also have more clarity now on how Max will be spending his community service for his swearing incident. This will be done in Rwanda with some junior competitors as part of the grassroots development programme organized by the Rwanda Automobile Club (RAC)

Verstappen was already scheduled to be in Rwanda to attend the end-of-season FIA awards ceremony as F1’s 2024 world champion.

Perez Future

Sergio Perez’s future might be decided as soon as today.

Red Bull Racing is engaged in key discussions with Sergio Perez to determine his Formula 1 future, but a final announcement on the team's 2025 lineup may be delayed until after Tuesday’s Abu Dhabi testing with Yuki Tsunoda.

Red Bull Motorsport Advisor Helmut Marko and Team Principal Christian Horner emphasized the importance of evaluating Perez’s performance and the team’s interests before deciding the way forward. Perez’s struggles this season, marked by inconsistent performances and finishing eighth in the drivers’ standings with 152 points (compared to Max Verstappen’s 437), significantly impacted Red Bull’s constructors’ championship results.

Horner acknowledged the need for consistent contributions from both drivers to compete effectively in the constructors' championship, given the strong lineups of rival teams. While no immediate decision has been confirmed, Red Bull is focusing on ensuring its 2025 strategy aligns with its long-term goals.
