The Out Lap

All About Marina Bay:

62 laps / 4.94km per lap / lap record 1:35.867 (Lewis Hamilton 2023)

A night race in Singapore brings lots of fireworks, bright advertising, and a pretty spectacular city to watch a race unfold.

The Marina Bay Circuit first joined the F1 calendar in 2008, hosting the very first Formula 1 night race! Fernando Alonso (racing for Renault) won the inaugural event.

However, this race does have a dark cloud over it, as it was revealed that Renault ordered Alonso’s teammate, Nelson Piquet Jr., to crash on lap 14 to bring out a safety car that heavily benefited Alonso.

Remember Flavio Briatore, who returned to Alpine this year? This is where his controversy originates, as he was originally charged with race-fixing and conspiracy when it came to light a year later that the crash was intentional and not a driving mistake.

Even though the race is held at night, it is HOT. Weather forecasts are predicting temperatures around 31 degrees Celsius, with humidity reaching 70%.

The race is often described as the toughest on the calendar due to the physical stresses placed on the drivers. With the heat, humidity, and speed of the circuit, drivers can reportedly lose up to 3 kg through sweat during the race.

This year, the circuit added a fourth DRS zone, making it the second track in F1 history to have four DRS zones, the other being Albert Park in Australia.

The safety car has made at least one appearance in every race so far—something we haven’t seen in a long time…

News From the Week

News it swirling that VCARB are nearing a deal to bring Liam Lawson to the team for 2025. While we can all agree Lawson has done everything he can so far to deserve a full time drive it is upsetting to think we might be losing Daniel Ricciardo from the grid again.

There has even been talk from Ralf Schumacher that Singapore could be Danny Ric’s last race in F1?

Daniel Ricciardo admitted to the uncertainty he is currently feeling i his press conference when asked about his status. Expects to know after Sunday’s GP. Reminder we have a month break again following Singapore so it would make sense that if a team wanted to make a change, now would be the best time.

Returning from his 1 race ban Kevin Magnussen had this to say when asked about the penalty point system:

"punished and then you come back and you're like, 'oh, ready to f**k shit up now!'"

Red Bull announced that they have cancelled the special fan designed livery they originally had planned for Singapore due to performance issues with the car and not wanting to add any additional weight. You know it’s bad when…

Mercedes are showing up with a green/teal livery this weekend to commemorate 50 years of their partnership with Petronas

McLaren are bringing a special livery in partnership with sponsor OKX.

Where Red Bull said no to liveries, their sister team VCARB are rocking up to this race weekend in jeans… in a collaboration with sponsor Hugo Boss.

George posted a couple photos getting in some Padel in the rain with some of the Mercedes team. This could be considered training for the race as there are decent risks of thundershowers this weekend!

Max Verstappen’s race engineer Gianpierro Lambiase was promoted to Head of Racing at Red Bull, but will continue to be Max’s race engineer
