The In Lap
Ollie Bearman was in at Haas during FP1, and the session went as well and as normally as you would want. You would think that before the summer break in a few weeks' time, we will know a bit more about the driver lineup for next year
Ferrari fans couldn’t have been too optimistic at the start of FP1 when Charles said over team radio “The car is horrendous for now.”
We had high hopes going into Qualifying after having 3 different drivers from 3 different teams top the timing charts across all practice sessions (with none being a Red Bull).
George had some choice words for Lewis after their first lap in Q3: “What the f*** was Lewis doing prepping that lap?” If the Mercs continue to close the gap to the front of the field and Lewis keeps fanning the flames of the rumors that the team has been favoring George, it could make for some interesting team dynamics
It came down to the last lap and ultimately Lando claimed P1, Max P2, and Lewis in P3. Perez finished in P8 but with his grid penalty, started the race in P11.
The Race
The race got off for a great start from Russell when he to jumped from 4th to 1st at the first turn. It didn’t last long as Verstappen claimed P1 on lap 3 as soon as DRS became enabled.
There was a bit of racing between the Ferraris and a small touch, with a couple of radio messages exchanged. With Ferrari struggling on pace over the past few races, it is not surprising they are a bit tense. Both drivers held their ground post-race and had some choice words for each other.
We saw some great overtakes yesterday involving Russell: on the first lap when he moved up into P1, and again when he and Lando went wheel to wheel, ultimately with Lando coming out ahead.
Lando and McLaren love the late-race pushes. Despite the unfortunate start of the race and losing P1 past the first corner, McLaren stuck with their strategy and made a strong charge at the end to finish P2.
Lewis claimed P3 and his first podium of season! Hard to believe his last podium was in Mexico last year.

Overheard in the Paddock
Alpine have brought on Flavio Briatore as a new executive advisor. This turned caused quite the stir and differing opinions considering his history… During the summer break in a few weeks time we will be covering Briatore’s controversy in the sport.
There was a fire in the McLaren motorhome which required one staff member to go to the hospital, but Zak Brown let us know post qualifying that the member had been released and all was ok.

After the race both Ferrari drivers did some finger pointing towards their teammates.
Carlos was being interviewed and had a somewhat spicy 🌶️ response to Charles opinion on the teammates racing “It’s too many times that after the race he complains about something”. Carlos also had some choice words for the non-penalty on Hamilton saying he didn’t think the move was legal.
Charles was quoted prior to make a point of the damage to the front wing he sustained form battling with Carlos and that he might have wanted to do “something spectacular” as this was his home race and a important moment in his career.
A Quick Look Ahead
