The Out Lap

50 laps / 6.201 km / 17 corners / 1:35.490 lap record (Piastri 2023)
The second-longest circuit on the calendar, behind only Spa-Francorchamps (7.004 km), the Las Vegas Grand Prix is one of five night races in the F1 season.
Held on a Saturday night (or early Sunday morning for many fans), the 2023 Las Vegas GP marked the first time since 1985 that an F1 race was held on a Sunday, following the South African Grand Prix.
2023 also saw F1 return to Las Vegas for the first time since the Caesars Palace Grand Prix, which took place in 1981 and 1982 as the season finale both years.
One of the race’s standout features is the 1.9 km (1.2 mi) straight that takes drivers down the iconic Las Vegas Strip, offering a unique spectacle.
In a memorable moment, Carlos Sainz blew a drain cover off the road during the 2023 race, prompting changes to ensure these covers are now more securely welded shut.
The 2023 race marked the fourth time in F1 history that one country hosted three races in a single season. Alongside the USA in 2023 and 1982, Italy hosted three races during the 2020 COVID-affected season.
Nico understood the assignment last season... 😎😅

What Needs To Happen For Max Verstappen To Win The Championship This Weekend? 🏆
With just three races remaining, Verstappen holds a 62-point lead over Lando Norris in the Drivers’ Championship.
To secure his fourth World Drivers’ Championship, Max needs one of the following scenarios:
- He finishes ahead of Norris, with both drivers scoring points.
- Neither driver scores points.
- Lando finishes 4th or lower, and Verstappen finishes one place behind him.
Even if Max DNFs the next two races and Lando wins both—while also claiming the fastest lap point each time—Lando would still need to outscore Verstappen by 10 points in the season finale in Abu Dhabi to take the title.

News From the Week
Yuki Customs Issue
F1 drivers are world travelers, constantly hopping between countries. While private planes make the journey a bit easier, challenges can still arise.
Coming into the USA Yuki Tsunoda was reportedly held up by US border control for several hours. According to Tsunoda himself, he was stuck in his pajamas and likely didn’t look the part of an F1 driver to the customs agents.
We will be interested to hear if any more information comes out on this situation and why he was held and questioned for so long.
Calendar Changes For 2026
Whenever the F1 calendar is released, fans often highlight the inefficiencies of the long-haul travel between continents.
With F1 aiming for carbon neutrality and a reduced environmental impact, it was only a matter of time before race weekends were reshuffled to minimize air travel and freight.
Recently, the Monaco Grand Prix was extended until 2031, with the added announcement that the race would be moved from May to the first full weekend in June.
Now the Canadian GP will be held during the third or fourth weekend of May. This will allow the European summer leg of the F1 schedule to take place uninterrupted.
Zhou Guanyu Ferrari Reserve Driver
It has been rumoured that Zhou could be in at Ferrari in 2025 in a reserve driver role. So far Ferrari have denied the rumours.
Perez’s Father
Over the past week Sergio Perez’s father has caused quite the stir with some of the comments he has made. First, Antonio Perez Garibay was asked about the security of Checo Pérez’s seat at Red Bull, and he took a shot at Lance Stroll and the reason behind Stroll’s F1 seat.
He then made controversial remarks about Ralf Schumacher’s sexuality, joking about Schumacher “coming out of the closet” in relation to when he reported that Pérez was on his way out at Red Bull. He suggested that Schumacher’s changing stance left him uncertain whether he was a journalist, a woman, or a gentleman.
“He first stated that Checo [Pérez] was already out of Red Bull. The following week, he [Schumacher] came out of the closet.”
“I don’t know if he was in love with Checo. Do you understand? There are many strange things. You no longer know if he is a journalist, a woman, or a gentleman. But his opinion doesn’t matter—not because of Checo Pérez, but because of what his [ex-]wife said about him.”
In response, Pérez distanced himself from his father’s comments during a Sky Sports interview on Wednesday, making it clear he didn’t share the same views.
"I don't agree with any of his comments.”
I don’t share any of his views, but at the same time, I don’t control what my father says. I can only control what I say, and I think it's important as a sport to always show that whatever happens on track stays on track.”
“We should always be an example to the rest of the world."
Driver Cooling System Details
We have been given some more insight to how the new driver cooling system will work in 2025.
It involved cooled water being pumped through the drivers overalls.
This must be attached to cars when the temperatures reach a certain threshold which the FIA has not defined exactly yet.
